Mae Hong Sorn, Thailand , 1965
A Silpathorn award winner (2009) and the first Thai artist to join Documenta 12 (2007),Sakarin Krue-On’s works – media, video, installation and sculpture – are mostly conceptual. Interested in the lives of particular communities, he nonetheless distances Thai traditions by placingthem in a contemporary context. This draws attention to human values but also to some negative aspects of Thai society.
